Hello! My name is Alexander Geis, and I would like to welcome you to my website. The site contains a number of areas, including my online digital portfolio and resume, information about currently ongoing multimedia research projects, and details about a number of companies and groups I work for, as well as groups I've personally started and play an active role in. In addition, there is a link to my personal blog of senseless tech rantings and occasional life reflection. But before looking through all that, let me share a bit about myself with you... I was born on the 16th of September, 1981 in Brooklyn, NY. At the age of two, I moved with my family from Queens to a small town called Manhasset in Nassau Country on Long Island. Not too long after moving, my mother bought me my first computer -- the Apple IIe. This was the beginning of my growing interest in computers, which developed over the years as I attended The Green Vale School from nursery through ninth grade. Around sixth grade, I began to learn about digital imaging, video editing and basic 3D modeling and animation, and multimedia immediately became a full time hobby of mine. Upon graduating, I attended The Hotchkiss School of Lakeville, CT for my sophomore, junior and senior high school years. As soon as I arrived, I quickly began to search for a multimedia organization or club, or lack thereof. With only a non-computer based, small TV club, I decided to look elsewhere for inspiration, and with the help of a number of talented students, interest grew. By the end of my sophomore year, I had teamed up with another creative and talented filmmaker named Charlie Ebersol to continue on and create a vast collection of videos over the course of my stay at Hotchkiss, as well as co-founding The Paper, the school's first full color magazine, covering sports and entertainment. These three years were, in essence, the beginning of 21 Productions, a company which would later grow into a reality after having graduated from Hotchkiss in 2000 and moving on to study at Carnegie Mellon University. I arrived at Carnegie Mellon in Fall 2000 as a mechanical engineering student. At first, I was unable to find an outlet for my multimedia hobby, so instead, I concentrated on my studies and mainly searched for independent media work. During my sophomore year, Qijun Leo, a fellow engineering classmate, had sparked interest across campus and rekindled my lost cause; and so, it was then that I decided to start back up 21 Productions. Along with the help of Riccardo Schulz, head of recording at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music, I put together a team and provided video services to the School of Music for the following years until my graduation in 2004. Upon returning home after college, I have spent the past years building 21 Productions as my personal company while continuing to work for a number of departments at Carnegie Mellon, remotely from home. In addition, I have broadened my scope of multimedia work and research and have begun to develop intricate software, including the Multimedia Streaming Engine. Finally, I have started to branch out and use my multimedia background for other organizations, most notably YKHWD and Speak With Me. The other areas of my website contain more information about a number of the groups and projects mentioned above, so please have a look around.
